John Pickering (pops)

Passed Away at Home
11th July 2023

John Pickering founding member of Hooky Players

Beloved Husband of Deirdre, much loved Dad of Lucy, Jo and Catrina, and loving Pops of Leo, Rohan, Xavi, Albie, Barney, Jonty and Tahlia.  John will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.  A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on  Friday 4th August 2023, 1.00pm at North Oxfordshire Crematorium

John was a founder member of Hooky Players and appeared in the first ever production 'Murdered to Death', playing the character of Colonel Charles Craddock.  He featured in several plays over the years as well as in numerous pantomimes in which he was often cast into titled roles - for instance, King Richard the Lionheart in Robin Hood, Sir Arthur in The Pied Piper of Hamlyn and King Henry in St George and the Dragon.  He also turned his hand to directing when the Players staged their 2012 pantomime 'Treasure Island'.  John's final performance was as the Sultan of Morocco in the 2015 pantomime, Dick Whittington.  John had such a genial approach to acting and took his roles, and all that entailed very seriously without losing sight of the fact that amateur dramatics is an enjoyable and fun leisure activity.

Rest in peace John.  From your fellow thespians in Hooky Players
